Having grown rapidly in the past couple of years from a group of three senior software engineers to a team of over 20 expert media operators, developers and account managers we thought it was time to introduce the M2A Media team.
While headquartered in London, we’re a pretty international bunch, hailing from the US, Brazil, Portugal, Peru and the UK. Our team brings a wealth of experience from some of the world’s leading broadcasters and a depth of expertise and knowledge in software engineering, cloud, video processing, broadcast architecture and workflow design that makes M2A a market-leader in cloud-based video solutions. So, let’s meet (some of) the team!
Marina Kalkanis, Co-founder & CEO
Co-founder and CEO, Marina Kalkanis, is a broadcast industry leader with over two decades of senior technology leadership experience. Prior to setting up M2A with Marcus Box, Marina was the BBC’s Director of Platform & Common Services, where she built the online video platform for iPlayer, expanded it for the 2012 Olympics, and led the team that migrated the BBC’s tape-based linear playout workflow to file-based IP delivery, running in AWS cloud. As CEO, Marina is responsible for M2A’s overall business strategy and commercial direction.
Marcus Box, Co-founder & CTO
Marcus Box, M2A co-founder and CTO, is also a senior BBC alumnus. Previously Head of Engineering in BBC Design & Engineering’s Platform & Common Services Division, Marcus was responsible for designing, building, maintaining and supporting the BBC’s media workflows. Projects included Media Factory, in which iPlayer’s entire VoD workflow was migrated to the AWS cloud, and File Based Delivery in which the BBC’s tape-based linear workflows were migrated to file/IP. As CTO, Marcus leads M2A’s development team and is responsible for the company’s technical direction.
Matt Dellowe, Head of Operations
Heading up M2A’s Operations team is Matt Dellowe. Matt’s career to date has taken in senior operations roles at major UK broadcasters and telcos, including ITV, Vodafone and the BBC, where he managed the Future Media Operations Team responsible for the continuity, quality and availability of the BBC’s online services including its websites, iPlayer and Interactive TV (Red Button). As Head of Operations, Matt leads M2A’s 24/7 365 Operations team, which can be responsible for monitoring the live streaming of up to 150 major live events a day and the creation of 1000+ hours of VoD catch-up content per week.
David Holroyd, Technical Architect
David Holroyd, Technical Architect for M2A, joined from the BBC where he worked in a number of technical roles, including Architect for the Media Services team who manage the content workflows for BBC iPlayer, contributing to internal projects such as Audio Factory and Video Factory. David also spent time on the 2012 Digital Olympics work programme, helping to ensure the high performance and resilience of the systems delivered across numerous product teams. Now as Technical Architect at M2A, David works with M2A’s engineering team to shape and deliver effective, cloud-based technical solutions to meet the needs of our broadcaster clients.
Guy Taylor, Head of Account Management
Head of Account Management, Guy Taylor, has a career that has spanned the globe, taking him via Qatar where he was Media Asset Manager for Al Jazeera English, to Amsterdam and back to London. As File Based Delivery Service Manager for the BBC, Guy was responsible for the BBC’s Media Services Team, and led the operational transition to file based delivery for all completed programmes delivered to the BBC. Leaving Amazon UK to join M2A, Guy looks after our key accounts from project inception to delivery.
